Gorkha Airlines took to the skies in the summer of 1996. With two helicopters and a lot of dedication, its chartered helicopter service was a major success. And so began its efforts to diversify into the commercial scheduled flight sectors. Combined with a flight to the Everest area as close as 4 nautical miles viewing the highest mountain of the world - "Mount Everest", and an unique sojourn through the scenic Namche Valley one will have witnessed in good weather all 18 of the highest peaks, 4 of which are above 8000 meters. Brief Introduction: Gorkha Airlines is a private sector airline company which was established in 1996.
The airline is promoted by well known personality and leading business professionals.
Brief History: The airline started in 1996 with the operation of two MI-17 helicopters.
It entered the fixed wing operation in 1998 with the introduction of two Dornier Do228 aircraft.
General Management: Mr. Haribhakta Shrestha, Ex. Director General of Civil Aviation Authority looks after the day to day function of the airline as the General Manager of the company.
The Future Plan: The airline is currently planning to introduce two Jet stream JS32EP aircraft to add to its current fleet of two Dornier aircraft in the market.
The airline is also looking to add another Dornier DO228 to its current fleet of fixed wings.
Where we stand: Gorkha Airlines is the oldest operating private airlines in Nepal.
The airline has highly experienced crews, engineers and dedicated staff.
It also holds adequate stock of spare parts.
Gorkha Crew: The current crew of the airlines is highly experienced with the domestic terrain as well as with the Dornier aircrafts.
Crews undergo regular training which includes - Simulator training, PPC as well as route checks (on regular basis).
The average flying hours of the captains exceed well over 9,000 hours in total.
The Maintenance: The Engineering department is headed by the Executive Director (Technical), Mr. K. L. Joshi who has more than 30 years experience in the field.
Amt are highly experienced on maintenance and the company keeps the manuals for maintenance purposes.
The Sectors: The company operates in eleven sectors on schedule basis and all over the country on charter basis.
We had served around 100,000 passengers per year (2003). These comprises of tourist passenger (18%) and the local passenger (82%).
The tourist passengers mainly include Chinese, Korean, Thai, British, Japanese and a small number of American tourists.
